2008 JCC Maccabi ArtsFest® Starting at the End of July

7/11/08 NEW YORK, NY, July 14, 2008 - JCC Maccabi ArtsFest® opens its third season this summer in two locations with more JCC delegations bringing more teens to participate in more fine and performing arts than ever before. The JCC of Northern Virginia in Fairfax (July 27-August 1) and the Sabes JCC in Minneapolis (August 17-22) will welcome over four hundred Jewish teens to express themselves through various artistic media including musical theater, rock and jazz bands, interpretive dance, filmmaking, computer animation, creative writing, and for the first time, costume design and culinary arts. >> go to complete story

Two Military Leaders Recognized at JCC Association Biennial

7/7/08 New York , NY , July 7, 2008 – JCC Association presented two distinguished military leaders with prestigious honors at the recent 2008 JCC Association Biennial, a gathering of Jewish Community Center volunteer leadership from across North America, held in Miami in May. Rabbi Philip Silverstein was named the 2008 Frank L. Weil Award winner for distinguished contributions to the welfare of Jewish armed services personnel, and Ronald D. Mandel Center for Jewish Education Pioneers New Model of Informal Jewish Education for Adult Learners

6/13/08 New York , NY , June 13, 2008 – JCC Association's Mandel Center for Jewish Education, which provides educational initiatives and resources for the JCC Movement, has unveiled its latest undertaking designed to strengthen adult Jewish engagement and identity. Journeys : Adult Jews Living and Learning takes an interactive, interdisciplinary, multi-media approach to learning through experiential program units. “The vision is to create an engagement curriculum,” explained Rabbi Alvin Mars, director of the Mandel Center . “Our goal is to invest people in meaningful Jewish life and learning through the vehicle of experiential education, helping participants understand all of life's experiences through a Jewish lens.” >> go to complete story

JCC Association Presents Awards to Outstanding Contributors to JCC Movement

5/01/08 New York, NY May 16, 2008-JCC Association presented the Frank L. Weil Award to Edward H. Kaplan and the Florence G. Heller Professional Award to Avrum Cohen and Solomon Greenfield, three extraordinary individuals, at this year's JCCs of North America Biennial in Miami, Florida. The Frank L. Weil Awards were established in 1950 in the name of JCC Association's late leader, who served with brilliant distinction as president of the Jewish Welfare Board from 1940 to 1950. They are presented for distinguished contributions to the Jewish Community Center field. The Florence G. Heller Award was established in 1968 to honor the memory of JCC Association's beloved former leader, and it is presented to an exceptional JCC professional. >> go to complete story

JCC Association Creates Pilot Resident Camp Program Aimed at Russian-Speaking Jewish Families

4/22/08 New York, NY, April 22, 2008 – Thanks to generous funding from the Genesis Philanthropy Group and Foundation for Jewish Camp, up to sixty children, ages 6 to 14, from Russian-speaking Jewish families will have the opportunity to attend JCC resident camps this summer at a steep tuition discount. Regardless of economic need, each child willing to commit to a camp program for a minimum of three weeks is to receive a stipend worth about two-thirds of the full cost of camp tuition. Further requirements of eligibility are that youngsters be first-time residential campers and not be enrolled in a Jewish day school.>> go to complete story
